The Uffizi Gallery, Pitti Palace, and Boboli Gardens are committed to making your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible—no matter your needs.

If you have mobility challenges, a disability, or you’re visiting with a baby, these museums have plenty of helpful services in place.

From priority entry and wheelchair access to baby-changing stations and accessible restrooms, everything is designed with comfort and convenience in mind.

You’ll also find free wheelchair rentals, family-friendly facilities, and clear guidance for those who need a bit of extra support.

The Uffizi Gallery attracts over 3 million visitors annually, so booking in advance is a smart move. The Skip-the-Line ticket is the most popular and budget-friendly option. The Guided Tour ticket includes expert insights, while the Small Group Tour offers a more personal experience with fewer people.

Priority and free entry for visitors with disabilities

Visitors with disabilities or special health needs are given priority access at ticket offices and museum entrances.

For assistance or more details, please reach out to the reception staff. Individuals with certified disabilities, along with one companion (a relative or caregiver), are entitled to free priority admission in accordance with Italian regulations.

Acceptable proof of disability includes a medical certificate issued under your country’s laws, a specific disability card or badge, or a valid disabled parking permit with your personal details.

European visitors may present the European Disability Card. All documents must be accompanied by a valid ID of the person with the disability.

Where to collect tickets for visitors with disabilities

Visitors with disabilities and their companions do not need to book admission in advance.

Uffizi Gallery: They can collect their tickets directly from the ticket office beneath the Ponente Loggia (on the right side), near Lungarno Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici. For any help or information, the reception staff at the ticket office and museum entrance are available to assist.

Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens: Tickets can be collected at the ticket office located in Piazza Pitti, to the right of the main entrance. Reception staff at the ticket office and museum entrance are available to provide assistance and information.

Accessibility Guide for Uffizi Gallery, Pitti Palace & Boboli Gardens

Uffizi Gallery

  • The main entrance has 126 steps. Visitors with mobility issues should use Door 1 under the colonnade (accessible via Via della Ninna).
  • Staff will assist with access to elevators at the Lanzi Staircase. For motorized wheelchairs or large devices, contact reception in advance.
  • Recommended wheelchair specs: max 230 kg (with user), 46 cm seat width, and 120 cm length.

Pitti Palace & Boboli Gardens

  • The path to the entrance is steep (up to 20% incline), so a companion is advised. Disabled parking is available nearby. The ticket office is 87 meters from the main entrance and is step-free.
  • The courtyard (Cortile dell’Ammannati) is level and provides access to services and museums. Boboli Gardens can be reached via a gravel uphill path or a 44-step slope.
  • Access to the Treasury of the Grand Dukes is limited to the ground floor.
  • Lifts to the Palatine Gallery, Modern Art Gallery, and Costume Museum are available near the cloakroom. Without lifts, 71 and 68 steps are required, respectively.

Vasari Corridor

Wheelchairs and walking frames are also available at Gate 1. Visitors must present their valid admission ticket, which will be noted by the staff (ticket code, name, and time slot). The mobility aids must be returned at the end of the corridor before exiting.

Guidelines for electric scooters

The use of electric scooters inside the museum is limited and assessed individually to ensure the safety of both visitors and artworks.

In some cases, staff may request visitors to switch to a museum-provided wheelchair at no additional cost.

Due to the narrow layout of certain rooms and the presence of delicate displays and furnishings, large wheelchairs and electric scooters may not be allowed in specific areas.

As a guideline, devices should ideally not exceed 120 cm in length, 50 cm in width, and 250 kg in total weight to ensure access to all areas, including elevators.

Accessible restroom locations across the museums

Uffizi Gallery: Accessible restrooms are available on both the first and second floors. An additional accessible toilet is located inside the new bookshop near the exit. Staff members are available to guide visitors to the nearest facility.

Pitti Palace: An accessible restroom is located in the inner courtyard, on the right side just past the cafeteria.

Boboli Gardens: In addition to the accessible toilet in the Pitti Palace courtyard (recommended before starting your visit), two more accessible restrooms are available within the gardens. One is located in the Chestnut Meadow area, and the other near the Annalena entrance (Via Romana), ideal for visitors exiting the gardens. Staff can assist with directions to the nearest facility.

Baby pit-stops and family-friendly facilities

The Uffizi Galleries offer dedicated, private spaces for breastfeeding and nappy changing, helping parents feel at ease during their visit. These Baby Pit-Stops are part of the “Together for Breastfeeding” initiative, created in collaboration with UNICEF Italy to support new mothers.

  • Uffizi Gallery: A Baby Pit-Stop is located on the second floor of the cafeteria.
  • Pitti Palace: The breastfeeding area is in the basement near the restrooms. It includes two rooms with comfortable seating and a changing table. It can be accessed via 18 steps from the cafeteria or 20 steps from the cloakroom, both with handrails.
  • Boboli Gardens: A bathroom with a changing table is available near the Amphitheatre.
